STEVENS POINT, Wis. (SabreAthletics.com) – The Marian University women's soccer team dropped a 3-1 non-conference decision to host UW-Stevens Point at the Point Soccer Bowl, this evening, Sept. 18. Freshman Mikaila Johnson scored her team-leading fourth goal of the season, while junior Caitlyn Rosenberger stopped a career-high 14 shots in 45 minutes of action.

Entering the day winless through six matches, the Pointers took out their frustration with a fury of first half shots, totaling 23 in all against Rosenberger and 42 for the match. Up until the 39th minute, Rosenberger stood up to the task by stopping every shot she saw, but Sarah Vitale changed that with a goal just 6:44 before halftime.

Abbie Ullrich tallied the game-winner in the 70th minute to help her team improve to 1-4-2 overall. Meanwhile, Marian dropped to 1-4-0 with the loss.

Alysha Kallas replaced Rosenberger in goal to open the second half and held her own by making 11 saves in 45 minutes. However, the Pointers were able to notch two more scores, including Kelsey Majerus' insurance tally in the 82nd minute.

Johnson then got the Sabres on the board in the 86th minute to avoid the shutout against UWSP keeper, Kristen Churkey, who made seven saves in the match.

Marian, which has faced a very difficult schedule already this season, will look ahead to its Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference opener against MSOE, this Saturday, Sept. 21. Kickoff is slated for 2:30 p.m. at Smith Field in Fond du Lac.
