Box Score RIVER FOREST, Ill. (SabreAthletics.com) -- The Marian University women's basketball team made quick work of Dominican University in its Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference opener on the road, 85-47, inside the Igini Sports Forum, this afternoon, Nov. 28. The Sabres improve to 4-0 for the first time since the 1993-94 season and go to 1-0 in league play.
Marian freshman Brittany Bauman poured in a career-high 22 points on 8-for-11 shooting, including 4-of-5 from downtown, while adding 8 rebounds. The Sabres led by as many as 36 points and forced the Stars into 40 turnovers, converting those into 33 points.
Trailing 6-4 early on, the Sabres opened up a big lead with the 14-2 run to make it 18-8. The leads would grow to 25-13 on a Nicole Paulus layup at the 9:30 for mark in the first half before the Stars (0-5, 0-1 NACC) started to make their comeback.
Dominican cut the deficit to 4 points with Sidney Montano's layup to make it 27-23 with 5:56 left in the half. However, Bauman answered with a 3-pointer and the Sabres erupted with a 16-1 run to close out the half with a 43-24 lead.
Marian kept the throttle down to open the second half with a 14-4 run and opened up a 57-28 lead. The lead reached 38 points on Brandi Bender's layup at the 1:20 mark to make it 85-47 before the Stars cut the final deficit to 32.
Despite the blowout win, the Sabres shot just 40 percent from the field, while Dominican shot 42 percent. Marian forced 39 turnovers, including 20 steals, and converted them into 33 points.
Paulus chipped in 13 points, while Megan Lantz and Sarah Olewinski added 12 apiece. Marian's bench out scores Dominican 33-9 in the win. The Sabres built a huge advantage at the free throw line with a 23-for-25 effort, while the Stars went just 8-for-19 at the line.
Hardin was the only Dominican player in double figures with 21 points and 7 rebounds.
The Sabres will be back in action Wednesday, Dec. 3, as they host MSOE in a 7 p.m. contest inside Sadoff Gymnasium.
