Box Score FOND DU LAC, Wis. (SabreAthletics.com) -- The Marian University women's basketball team continued their record setting start to the season today, December 6, against the Rockford Regents in a conference matchup inside the Sadoff Gymnasium. After gaining the lead midway through the first the Sabres never let it go, coming away with an 84-66 win to improve to 6-0, 3-0 NACC while the Regents drop to 1-5, 1-2 NACC.
Marian freshman Brittany Bauman had the hot hand for the Sabres on the day, shooting 5-6 from the field to earn a team high 13 points. Fellow freshman Bradni Bender took control on defense, committing five of the team's 15 steals as the Sabres had control on both sides throughout the game.
Rockford started the night strong, scoring a quick 14 points to have a 10 point lead over the Sabres less than five minutes in. Marian erased the Regents momentum going on a 28-2 run that included six three-pointers to go on top 32-16 with just under six minutes remaining in the half.
The Sabres went into half with an 11 point lead, despite being outscored 15-11 by the Regents in the final five minutes. Ball control was a big issue for the Regents in the first half as the team committed 19 turnovers which led to 26 points for the Sabres.
Rockford regrouped at half time and made some changes to their approach. With smarter decisions and better ball handling, the Regents limited their turnovers to nine and had two players score 10 points in the second half, but it wasn't enough to answer Marian.
Consistency from the floor contained the Sabres lead throughout the night. The Sabres went 16-33 from the floor in the second half to outscore the regents by six, not once giving up the lead. Defensive rebounds also played a large role in the team's success as the Sabres brought down 24 of 37 on the Regents side to limit second chance opportunities. Emma Jarvey led the way with four.
The Sabres have a week of rest before Concordia Chicago comes to town for an afternoon start in the Sadoff. A win would bring the Sabres to their first 7-0 start since 1993-94. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m.
