Marian ACHA hockey sweeps UW-Eau Claire in non-conference action

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. - Marian University ACHA hockey (12-0, 6-0 NCHL) defeated UW-Eau Claire 4-3 in overtime and 5-2 to stay unbeaten heading into a big NCHL weekend.

The Sabres trailed early in the opener as the Blugolds took a 1-0 lead into the first intermission before a Nikita Sokov goal in the second period, assists to Kirill Proskurin and Dan Liberko, evened the score heading into the third period.  The defensive-minded game saw both offenses find a groove in the third period with four goals, two for each team, being scored in a span of four minutes.  Connor Rosaasen scored one of the Sabre goals with assists to Connor Martin and Sheamus Stoyle.  Sokov also found the back of the net in the third period for his second goal of the game with an assist to Dan Roe forcing overtime.

In the extra period, Roe would light the lamp to lift the Sabres to a victory with assists coming from Tanner Duffney and Paul Kinder.

Justin Davidson earned the victory in goal for the Sabres stopping 31 of the 34 shots he faced.  Marian went on to outshoot the Blugolds 42-34 in the victory.

The finale of the series saw Marian jump out to an early lead and never look back to secure the sweep.  The Sabres would net three goals in the opening period, two of which were separated by only 10 seconds.  Sokov, Roe, and Tyren Boots were the goal scorers for Marian with Roe's goal being unassisted.  Martin assisted the Sokov goal, while Miles Giorgione and Sokov assisted the Boots goal.

After a quiet second period, Duffney and Boots each lit the lamp in the third period with Giorgione and Sokov assisting the Boots goal to secure the 5-2 victory.

Davidson secured another victory for the Sabres in goal with 30 saves as the Sabres went on to outshoot UW-Eau Claire 44-32 in the finale.

Marian returns home for a huge match-up with Aurora November 2-3 from Blue Line Family Ice Center.  The opener for the series will begin at 7:30 p.m. and the finale at 2:30 p.m. with both games being broadcasted at https://portal.stretchinternet.com/marianwi/.
