Sabre women's soccer suffers 2-0 set back to UWSP

Box Score

FOND DU LAC - A pair of second-half goals from UW-Stevens Point lifted the Pointers past Marian University women's soccer (1-1-0, 0-0-0 NACC) by a 2-0 final in non-conference action.

The first half opened as a balanced affair with each team possessing the ball evenly.  The Sabres would have what proved to be their best chance of the game come in the 15th minute when senior Allyson VanZeeland made a nice move at the top of the box but her shot would go wide left.

As the half went on, the UWSP offense continued to push harder but sophomore Kylie Lange was able to hold the Pointers scoreless on eight shots heading into the break.  UW-Stevens Point finally broke through just 1:29 into the second half to take the 1-0 advantage.

The Marian offense was able to push as the half went on but a late goal with only 35.4 seconds remaining from UWSP dashed any hopes of forcing overtime.

Lange (1-1-0) closed out the game with another six saves bringing her total to 14 in the defeat.  Freshman Ashley Welk paced the offense with four of the nine Marian shots.

Marian remains at home to take on Saint Mary's (Minn.) Friday, Sept. 6 at 7 p.m. from the Fond du Lac Soccer Complex.
