FOND DU LAC - Marian University women's soccer (6-8-1, 6-5-0 NACC) posted their first shutout of the season defeating Lakeland 3-0.

The Sabres wasted no time finding the back of the net as Marian was able to score a pair of goals in the first 14 minutes.  Junior Ashley Welk scored her sixth goal of the season to open the scoring just 6:23 into the game with an assist to sophomore Sophie Giron.  Then at the 13:52 mark, sophomore Trinity Grimes was able to assist senior Shannon Coughlin who scored for the sixth time this season as well.  This gave Marian a 2-0 lead into the half despite Lakeland outshooting Marian 6-5.

A quick start to the second half saw senior Meghan Batzner score for the fourth time this season just 5:16 into the second stanza to set the final at 3-0.  The goal was her third tally in the past two games. 

Marian finished with a 12-8 edge in shots led by Welk who fired four shots.  Senior Kylie Lange (3-3-0) earned her third win in the last four games making five saves.

Marian takes on Alverno Saturday, Oct. 23 for a 2 p.m. kick-off to open the weekend.
