Box Score RIVER FOREST, Ill. - Marian University men's lacrosse (7-5, 4-3 NACC) clinched a spot in the NACC Tournament defeating Concordia Chicago 16-8.
Playing their second game in as many days, Marian had a good start scoring the first two goals of the game against CUC. The Cougars responded with a pair of goals to tie the game, but junior Tanner Chester scored with 2:48 left in the opening quarter to put Marian ahead 3-2. Concordia Chicago was able to tie the game at 5-5 in the second quarter before Marian scored four unanswered goals to go ahead 9-5 going into the half.
Out of the break, Marian dominated in the third quarter outscoring Concordia Chicago 4-1 taking a 13-6 lead into the final quarter. The Sabres pushed their lead to as large as nine and eventually put the final at 16-8.
Junior Erik Horman led the scoring for the Sabres with four goals, while senior Nick Klotz assisted on six of the Marian goals. Senior Tommy Gerlach scored a goal to go with a game-high five ground balls and two caused turnovers. Sophomore Richard Summers III (2-1) faced 19 shots making 11 saves to earn the win.
Marian travels to top-seeded Benedictine Tuesday, April 27 for a 7 p.m. face-off in the conference tournament.
