FOND DU LAC - Marian University women's volleyball (7-23, 4-9 NACC) closed out NACC play falling to St. Norbert 25-23, 11-25, 25-23, 20-25, and 15-12.
The opening set was a seesaw battle that saw Marian battle back from a 22-18 deficit to tie the set at 23-23. The Green Knights were able to stave off the rally, however, and scored two consecutive points to win the set. The Sabres bounced back in a big way opening the second set with nine straight points. Marian was able to build its lead to as large as 15 at 20-5 and eventually took the set.
The Sabres opened the third set with a 12-10 advantage only to have the Green Knights go on a 9-3 run and build a 19-15 advantage. Marian was able to cut the deficit down to two only to have SNC go ahead 24-18. Marian wouldn't go away quietly scoring five straight to trim the deficit to one only to have SNC take the set. St. Norbert opened the third set with a 7-5 advantage but Marian would tally six straight points to take an 11-7 advantage.   Marian continued to apply pressure and built its lead out to 22-16 and used a block from juniors
Serina Pehowski and
Anna Tapia to force a fifth set.
Neither team led by more than two leading to a 9-7 SNC lead to open the fifth. St. Norbert then scored three straight to take a 12-7 advantage, but Marian was once again able to battle back. Marian was able to trail by just 12-10, but could only trad points with the Green Knights the rest of the way.
Pehowski finished with a career-best 19 kills to lead the Sabre offense and added six blocks at the net. Senior
Andrea Miller led the back row with 12 digs, while Tapia had a closing line of 38 assists, three service aces, and eight digs.
Marian closes out the season traveling to Lake Forest Friday, Oct. 28 for a 7 p.m. first serve.
