Box Score FOND DU LAC - Marian University women's lacrosse (1-11, 1-3 NACC) dropped its final home game of the season 6-5 in overtime against Edgewood.
The first quarter saw just one goal when freshman Izzy Newton found the back of the net off of a feed from sophomore Nicole Stachon. Stachon then gave Marian a 2-0 lead to open the second quarter after scoring on a free-position attempt. The Falcons were able to score with just 3:54 left to put the score at 2-1 at the half.
Marian was able to get out to a fast start in the second half scoring a pair of goals in the first 3:40. Stachon netted both goals for the Sabres with the first being off of a free position. This put the Sabres ahead 4-1 but Edgewood responded with a goal to put the score at 4-2 heading into the final stanza.
The Eagles were able to tie the game to open the fourth quarter scoring a pair of goals. The tie wouldn't last long when Newton scored with 6:07 remaining to give Marian a 5-4 advantage. With 4:05 left in regulation, Edgewood would tie the game scoring with a player down to force overtime. Edgewood needed just 24 seconds scoring on their first shot in the extra period to earn the comeback win.
Marian was outshot by a slim 24-23 margin in the defeat and held Edgewood to just 16-of-30 on clears. Stachon finished with four points scoring three times with a helper. Freshman Isabel Davis and sophomore Dallas Kreisa each grabbed four ground balls. Freshman Gwen Kosirog (1-11) made 10 saves on 16 shots and held Edgewood to 2-of-7 on free-position attempts.
Marian travels to Concordia Wisconsin Thursday, April 21 for a 4 p.m. match-up in NACC action.
