Box Score ELMHURST, Ill. - Marian University women's lacrosse (2-13, 2-4 NACC) was defeated 10-9 by Elmhurst its final game of the season.
The first quarter was busy for scoring with the two squads combining for seven total goals. Marian had four different goal scorers as the Sabres took an early 4-3 lead. The Sabres extended this lead out to 6-4 going into halftime after freshman Izzy Newton and sophomore Jazmine Barrios each scored.
Marian continued to build its lead in the third quarter leading by as much as 8-4. The Blue Jays would score the final goal of the quarter to put the score at 8-5 headed to the fourth. Marian found themselves ahead 9-6 with 13:54 left in the game after sophomore Nicole Stachon found the back of the net. Elmhurst rallied, however, scoring the final four goals of the game.
The Sabres outshot Elmhurst 31-25 in the game and went 14-of-19 (.737) on clears.
Newton posted her fifth game with at least three goals in the defeat and also caused a pair of turnovers to go with five draw controls. Stachon led the Sabres with six draw controls and fellow sophomore Emilee Magill had three ground balls and two caused turnovers.
Freshman Gwen Kosirog (2-13) made six saves on 16 shots in goal for Marian.
