Marian women's lacrosse holds off Anderson for road win

ANDERSON, Ind. - Marian University women's lacrosse (2-2, 0-0 NACC) defeated Anderson (Ind.) 12-11 in non-conference action.

  • Marian was able to get out to a fast start outscoring the Ravens 6-1 in the opening quarter.
  • Juniors Dallas Kreisa and Jazmine Barrios each had a pair of goals in the first 15 minutes.
  • The Sabres built their lead out to 7-1 to open the second quarter after junior Taylor Russo found the back of the net with an assist from sophomore Izzy Newton.
  • Anderson then outscored Marian 4-1 the remainder of the quarter to cut their deficit down to 8-5 at the half.
  • Each team scored a goal in the third period, Kreisa being the goal scorer for Marian, as the Sabres went into the fourth leading 9-6.
  • Anderson was able to tie the game at 10-10 to open the final stanza.
  • Kreisa would score back-to-back goals in the span of 1:17 to put Marian ahead 12-10 with just 48 seconds left.
  • The Ravens would score with just 35 seconds left but Marian won the ensuing draw to earn the win.

  • Marian was outshot by a slim 29-28 margin but held a 17-12 advantage in the second half.
  • Each team had 22 turnovers with the Marian defense holding Anderson to just 9-of-17 (.529) on clear attempts.
  • Marian held an advantage in ground balls by a 22-19 margin
  • This is just the second time in program history Marian has won two games in a row.

Junior Dallas Kreisa had a career-high six goals and eight points.  She also had six ground balls and draw controls. Junior Gwen Kosirog made nine saves in goal to earn the victory. Freshman Emma Church led the Sabre defense with three caused turnovers and ground balls.
