Hope Matta and junior
Katelyn Matenaer of Marian University softball have earned All-NACC recognition.
Matta (Valparaiso, Ind.) was a staple at the top of the Sabre lineup all season long and garners First Team All-NACC honors. She was just one of 10 hitters this season to record at least 50 hits in the NACC finishing the season seventh for the category with 53 base knocks. On the base paths, Matta ranked 10th in the conference with 0.89 runs per game and sixth for stolen bases with 16. Matta started in all 36 games and was held hitless in just eight games this season. She had 20 performances with multiple hits and at one point had a six-game multi-hit streak. She also had eight games this season where she scored multiple runs. Matta becomes the first freshman to be named First Team All-NACC since 2017.
Matenaer (West Bend, Wis.) earns All-NACC recognition for a second straight season being named to the second team. She had another big season in the heart of the Marian lineup finishing the regular season second in the conference for runs batted in with 35 and 10th in the NACC with a .649 slugging percentage. Matenaer was sixth in the NACC with her six home runs, while her 74 total bases was good for eighth at the end of the regular season. She had 13 performances this season with multiple hits and drove in multiple runs in nine games. Defensively at shortstop, she committed just nine errors on 126 total chances for a .929 fielding percentage. Matenaer earned one NACC Player of the Week award this season after leading Marian to wins over Northland and UW-Stevens Point to open the season. In that twin bill, Matenaer went 3-for-4 in each game with three home runs, eight driven in, and a 2.125 slugging percentage.
