Ayeni shines as Marian men's basketball rolls

FOND DU LAC - Junior Andrew Ayeni finished just two assists shy of a triple-double, as Marian University men's basketball (4-3, 2-1 NACC) cruised to an 81-58 win over Wisconsin Lutheran.

  • Ayeni made an early impact on the glass, grabbing the Sabres' first four rebounds. 
  • Back-to-back three-pointers by the Sabres pushed Marian ahead 14–9 early in the first half.
  • Junior Rashawn Bost fueled an 8-0 run with a three-pointer and two assists, giving the Sabres a double-digit lead for the first time at 11:17.
  • After the Warriors cut the lead to four, freshman Marvin Haslett took over, scoring 10 of the Sabres' final 16 points to give Marian a 43-31 advantage at halftime. 
  • Marian started the second half on a 23-4 run, pushing their lead to 31, with Ayeni involved in 13 of the points. 
  • A layup from freshman Max Breitenbach gave Marian a 35-point advantage, its largest lead of the night. 
  • The Warriors cut the deficit to 23, but it was too little, too late, as Marian secured a convincing 81-58 win.

Senior Alex Vassilakis once again flirted with a double-double, finishing with eight points and nine rebounds.
