Slow start costs Sabre women's lacrosse at MSOE

MILWAUKEE - Marian University women's lacrosse (4-8, 1-3 NACC) suffered a crucial loss falling to MSOE 19-10.

  • A busy first quarter saw the Raiders score seven of the first eight goals to lead by six.
  • A pair of goals from senior Nicole Stachon brought Marian to within four, but MSOE scored two goals separated by 25 seconds to lead 9-3 after the first 15 minutes.
  • MSOE was able to build its lead to 11-3 after scoring the first two goals of the second quarter.
  • Marian was able to end the half strong scoring three of the final four goals with two of the scores coming from senior Emma Heide.
  • The second half started just like the first, however, as MSOE scored the first four goals and led 18-7 going into the final stanza.
  • The Sabres were the only team to score in the final quarter but only netted three scores.

  • Marian was outshot 42-19 in the defeat and MSOE had a 33-16 edge fro ground balls.
  • The Sabres held a slim 17-16 advantage in draw controls and limited MSOE to just 2-of-10 on free-position shots.
  • The Sabres committed 26 turnovers, 11 of the which came in the first quarter, to only 17 for the Raiders.
  • This was just the second meeting between the two schools with the two squads each having one win now.

Senior Nicole Stachon scored five goals to go with six draw controls, four caused turnovers, and five ground balls.
Freshman Emma Johnson had a season-high 17 saves.
Senior Isabel Davis had three ground balls and three caused turnovers.
