GENEVA, Ill. - Marian University NCAA men's ice hockey (3-12-2, 2-8-0 NCHA) scored the opening goal of the game but was defeated by No. 2/2 Aurora 6-2.
- Marian was able to open the scoring with 4:51 left in the first period when freshman Owen Norman scored his first collegiate goal.
- The lead lasted only 2:24 as Aurora evened up the score heading into the second period.
- The Spartans were able to take their first lead of the game with a power-play goal at the 6:46 mark and extended that advantage 2:44 later.
- The 3-1 Aurora lead was bumped to 4-1 with a goal at the 8:15 mark of the third period.
- Junior Cole Carlson netted a power-play goal with 7:38 left in the period to cut the Marian lead down to 4-2.
- Junior Nolan Flint and senior Noah Pickart each assisted the score.
- A pair of Aurora goals ended any thoughts of a comeback, however, and put the final at 6-2.
- Marian was outshot 36-24 in the game.
- The Spartans also had a 42-22 advantage in face-offs.
- Marian was 1-for-3 on the power play and the Spartans finished 2-for-4.
- The Sabres are now 10-11-1 all-time with the Spartans taking the last six meetings.
