Sabre NCAA men's hockey suffers sweep at No. 12/13 Trine

ANGOLA, Ind. - Marian University NCAA men's ice hockey (7-14-2, 6-10-0 NCHA) suffered a sweep to No. 12/13 Trine falling 6-4.

  • The Sabres were able to start strong with a goal from sophomore Brady Brenner just 3:29 into the game.
  • Back-to-back power-play goals from Trine gave the Thunder a 2-1 lead. 
  • Trine was able to build its lead to 3-1 heading into the first intermission.
  • The Sabres scored the lone goal of the second period when sophomore Dayne Tews netted a power-play goal to put Marian behind only 3-2.
  • A strong start to the third period saw sophomore Edison Weeks score just 1:01 in to tie the game at 3-3.
  • The Thunder were able to take a the lead at the 10:20 mark, but Marian had a response.
  • Sophomore Lucas Jeffreys was able to even the score with just 5:53 to play.
  • Trine was able to retake the lead once more with 1:59 on the clock and iced the game with a final-minute goal.

  • Trine had a 39-20 advantage for shots in the game.
  • Face-offs narrowly favored the Thunder at 39-36.
  • Marian was 1-for-2 on the power play and Trine finished 2-for-6.
  • This is the first conference sweep without earning any points Marian has suffered since Nov. 14-15 against No. 4/4 St. Norbert.
  • Marian falls to 1-11-0 on the road against Trine.
  • The Sabres can clinch a spot in the NCHA Harris Cup before next weekend if Dubuque drops any points to Lawrence in its series.
