Hot bats power Marian softball past Edgewood

FOND DU LAC - Marian University softball (14-12, 11-5 NACC) racked up 24 hits in a sweep of Edgewood, earning 4-0 and 9-1 wins for its first sweep of the Eagles since 2021.

GAME 1 
  • Junior Sabrina Di Vito opened strong with two strikeouts in the first inning.
  • Senior Carissa Heisdorf hit a triple in her first at-bat and later scored to put the Sabres on the board in the second. 
  • Senior Riley Mankowski's double highlighted a two-run, four-hit fourth inning for the Sabres as they extended their lead to three runs. 
  • Junior Savanna Knuth's sacrifice fly in the fifth plated senior Hope Matta to add to Marian's cushion. 
  • Di Vito was dominant in the 4-0 shutout of the Eagles, allowing just one hit. 
GAME 2 
  • Marian struck early in the first, scoring three unearned runs, including Knuth stealing home. 
  • Edgewood broke through in the fifth with three hits and a run in the inning. 
  • The Sabres added two runs in the fourth and three in the fifth to take an 8-1 lead.
  • Senior Alex Paulsberg capped the game in the sixth with an RBI as Marian sealed the sweep with a run-rule victory.

  • Marian tallied a season-high five stolen bases, led by Heisdorf with two, while junior Erin Cowe, Knuth, and Pease each had one.
  • The Sabres racked up 13 hits, their third-highest total of the season. 
  • Marian capitalized on three Edgewood errors, plating five unearned runs.
  • Marian leads the all-time series against Edgewood, 57-40.
