Peltonen's ninth Coach of the Year award highlights NACC men's soccer awards

MILWAUKEE - Three student-athletes and the coaching staff of the Marian University men's soccer program have earned all-conference recognition, as announced by the league.

Junior Giuliano Corazzina (Park Ridge, Ill.) earns his second all-conference award at Marian and his first time being selected to the first team.  Corazzina proved himself as one of the best scorers in the nation this season as he ranked ninth in the nation for goals scored and 10th in the country for total points at the end of the regular season.  He concluded the season with 16 goals and 38 total points.  Corazzina especially had a dominant October that saw him record 25 points and score at least one goal in seven of nine games.  He also posted his first hat trick as a Sabre against Lawrence and added an assist to complete a seven-point game.  Through just 37 career games, Corazzina ranks eighth on the Marian all-time scoring list with 69 points.

Junior Drew Cowden (Covington, Wash.) is named all-conference for the third time in his career and is named to the first team for the first time.  Cowden finished the season with eight goals with seven assists for 23 total points.  He posted five points in a pair of games scoring twice with an assist against Aurora and at Dominican.  Cowden also had a four-point game against Lakeland where he scored once and had a pair of assists.  The Sabres were unbeaten this season when Cowden was able to find the back of the net.  For his career, Cowden is tied for 14th on the Marian all-time scoring list and his 24 career assists is third all-time.

Senior Chase Hayden (Wauconda, Ill.) closes out an illustrious career at Marian earning his third all-conference selection, a second-team selection.  Hayden made the full-time transition to defense and served as a captain for the Sabres.  He scored one goal against Edgewood and helped anchor a Sabre defense that posted three shutouts on the year.  Hayden closes out his career having started in all 62 games he played in with 12 goals and six assists for 30 total points.  He also netted five game-winning goals in his time at Marian.

The Marian men's coaching staff earns NACC Coaching Staff of the Year honors after the Sabres hosted a NACC Tournament match for the first time since 2004.  The Sabres were picked 11th in the conference preseason poll but skyrocketed up to fourth and finished just one point from earning a share of the conference championship.  Marian had the fourth-best offense in the NACC with 28 goals scored.  This season was also the third time the Sabres earned double-digit wins in the NACC era.  For Craig Peltonen, this is his ninth time earning Coach of the Year recognition and his first time earning the award in the NACC era.
