Marian Softball Offense Explodes to Salvage Split at Edgewood

VERONA, Wis. - Marian University softball (13-13, 8-6 NACC) was defeated 4-3 on a walk-off home run before defeating Edgewood 12-4 in five innings.

GAME 1
  • Marian was able to open the scoring for the day when freshman Ariana Schliepp hit a two-run double in the third.
  • The Sabre lead didn't last long as Edgewood scored two in its half of the third and took a 3-2 lead with a homer in the fifth.
  • The Eagle lead also lasted a short amount of time as senior Andrea Miller hit a solo home run in the next half inning to tie the game at 3-3.
  • A leadoff home run in the bottom of the seventh broke the tie and gave Edgewood the victory.
GAME 2
  • Marian didn't wait long to take a big lead in game two scoring six runs in the opening frame.
  • Freshman Ariana Schliepp drove in two runs to open the scoring and junior Evelynn Spaeth also drove in two runs in the frame.
  • The Eagles scored a run their half of the frame but the Sabres responded with four more unanswered runs.
  • Sophomore Kerena Wood and Miller each hit two-run home runs in the second inning as Marian built an 11-1 lead.
  • The Eagles hit a pair of home runs in the third to trail just 11-4, but Marian would steal a run in the fourth to help finish the mercy-rule win.

GAME 1
Freshman Hope Matta continued to hit well going 2-for-3 with a run scored and a walk.
Senior Julia Corona had her fourth multi-hit effort of the season going 2-for-3.
Senior Emalee Depa (5-8) went 6.0 innings allowing just five hits and four earned runs.

GAME 2
Freshman Hope Matta extended her multi-hit streak to six games going 2-for-3 with a run scored and one driven in.
Andrea Miller Senior Andrea Miller was 3-for-3 with four driven in and two runs scored.
Freshman Ariana Schliepp was 2-for-2 with two driven in and two runs scored.
