Sabre Scratch - Week 9 Recap

Sabre Scratch graphic

It is officially crossover season! One Marian squad has already clinched a postseason bid, another looks to do the same this week, AND we bring back NCAA hockey.  Let's go over everything you may have missed from this week!

MEN'S SOCCER

It was the most important week of the season for the Sabres and Marian was able to come away with a big four points.  The Sabres opened the week with a tie against WLC and closed it out with a dominating 4-1 win over CUC on Senior Day.  Sophomore Brayden Johnson had a brace against the Cougars.  Marian finishes the regular season against CUW at home and if the Sabres are able to win they will clinch a postseason bid.  The Sabres can also claim a NACC Tourney spot with a tie combined with WLC tying or losing to Edgewood.

WOMEN'S SOCCER

Marian is headed to the postseason! The Sabres tied with WLC 1-1 before posting a shutout against Concordia Chicago to claim their spot in the NACC Tournament.  For senior Chelsea King it was the 13th shutout of her Marian career.  Marian can finish as high as the No. 6 seed with a result against CUW this upcoming week.

WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL

It was the best week of the season for Marian as the Sabres were able to sweep Alverno and defeat Concordia Chicago in five sets on the road.  Senior Natalie Dempze-Enkro had 20 kills on the week, while fellow senior Mikalah Mueller averaged 4.63 digs per set and had five service aces against the Cougars!

FIELD HOCKEY

Another solid week saw Marian clinch at least the No. 4 seed for the CFHC Tournament.  After a narrow 1-0 defeat against Rhodes, the Sabres were able to battle to a 2-1 win over Sewanee.  Junior Emilee Clarey made eight saves against the Tigers as Marian tied a single-season record for victories!

ACHA D2

It was a big weekend for the Sabres as Marian was able to go 3-0 at its home showcase!  The Sabres put together a pair of rallies to defeat Sault 4-3 and Jamestown 5-3.  Marian then dominated in its final match-up defeating Aurora 7-3!

ACHA D3

Marian had an off week but returns to action with a home-and-home series against Wisconsin!
