Box Score FOND DU LAC, Wis. (SabreAthletics.com) – A first period goal by Amanda Reimann gave the Marian University women's hockey team a lead going into the second period, by visiting and sixth-ranked UW-River Falls showed why they are one of the best teams in the country, scoring four times in the second en route to a 7-2 win inside the Blue Line Family Ice Center, this afternoon, Feb. 1.
Reimann's goal came on a 3-on-2 breakaway that Devin Lesch dropped right to her stick and she put it home past Falcon goalie Meaghan Wenner. UW-River Falls answered with four goals in the second period to take the lead and added three more insurance tallies in the third to seal the win.
Marian goalie Ali Glazer made 63 saves in the loss, a career-high and the third-most single game saves in school history.
The Falcons improved to 13-4-2 overall, 11-2-2 in the NCHA with the win, while the Sabres dropped to 3-14-2 (2-10-2 NCHA) with the loss.
The Sabres struck first with an Amanda Reimann goal at the 15:50 mark in the first period. It was her first goal of the season. Lesch and Erin Dunphy were credited with assists.
Marian goalie Ali Glazer stopped all 25 shots that came her way to secure the 1-0 lead into the first intermission.
In the second period, the nationally-ranked Falcons displayed their offensive in the form of four goals. Katie Batters scored her first of two goals in the game just 3:14 into the period to tie the game at 1-1. Crysta Lowell then put the Falcons in front at the 7:45 mark, converting a power play opportunity. UW-River Falls would go 1-for-4 on the power play for the game.
Megan Sesing-Gomoll tied the game less than a minute later on an assist from Reimann to make it 2-2, but the Falcons weren't done scoring. Chloe Kinsel and Brook Story would find the back of the net before the period was over, giving the visitors a 4-2 advantage going into the second intermission.
In the third period, Amanda Ryder, Batters and Kait Mason each recorded goals within the first 6:01 into the frame. The score would remain 7-2 until the final horn.
The Falcons dominated the shots on goal department by a margin of 70-16.
Marian will try to avoid the sweep as both teams hook up one more time in a noon start tomorrow, Feb. 2.
