EAU CLAIRE, Wis. - In a defensive battle, Marian University women's hockey (4-7-1, 3-5-0 NCHA) tied UW-Eau Claire 1-1 in non-conference action to close out the first half.

All of the action would come in the third period as neither offense would find a way to light the lamp in the first 40 minutes of action.  The Blugolds found the back of the net first while on the power play about halfway through the third period to open the scoring.

Senior Sarah Bier then knotted the game at one apiece with just under four minutes left to play for her third goal of the season.  Junior Ellie Deans assisted the goal that sent the game to overtime. 

In the extra period, UWEC would outshoot the Sabres 7-1 but the goaltenders continued to stand tall forcing the 1-1 tie.

Sophomore Lindsey Strainis (3-5-1) made 39 saves marking the second time in the past three games she has stopped 35 or more shots.

Marian travels to St. Cloud, Minn. Friday, January 6 to take on Hamline with a 5 p.m. puck drop.
