Sabre women's hockey struggles offensively against No. 10 UWEC

Box Score

FOND DU LAC, Wis. - Marian University women's hockey (3-9-0, 3-5-0 NCHA) was held to only 16 shots as the Sabres dropped their first half finale 1-0 against No. 10 UW-Eau Claire.

The Sabres outshot the Blugolds 8-7 in the final period, which proved to be the best period of the night for the Sabres.  Marian would be unable to find any traction on the power play where they were held scoreless on six opportunities.

In the faceoff circle, junior Hailey Miller went 14-11 to lead the Sabres, while senior Paige Johnson had nine wins.  Junior Alexis Peterson would also have a good game going 6-1 in the circle.

For the fourth time this season, junior Lindsey Strainis eclipsed the 30-save plateau with 35 stops.

The lone goal of the night would come in the opening period when the Blugolds converted on their first power play opportunity of the night.  The UWEC came at the 5:24 mark and proved to be the lone tally for either side the remainder of the game.

Marian opens the second half of the season on the road Friday, Jan. 5 at 5 p.m. when MU takes on Hamline.
